Top Ten Horror Soundtracks of 2014!

Happy new year Horror Music Lovers!

Welcome to 2015! This year promises to be a great year of Horror Music, with plenty of new scary films being released with killer soundtracks!

We thought that we would take this opportunity to look back on the scariest and thriller horror music soundtracks of 2014 with a top ten list!!! (Everyone loves a top ten list right?)

10 – The Purge Anarchy

What is quickly becoming a big franchise, i watched the Purge the other night. Some great music, understated but still with that scary vibe. A Little 28 Days later style, but you can’t blame them for trying too capture that vibe!

9 - The Babadook

Very interesting and unique soundtrack for this film. Scary as hell, but blending elements of EDM, Dubstep, Glitch and that Transformers ‘Glitch’ style sound. If you’re a fan of drum and bass and horror music then you should check this out!

8 - Deliver us from Evil

Something a little slower and more relaxed now. This soundtrack is what i like to call ‘Classic’ Horror. Lovely use of strings to create a suspenseful texture and that warm horror music sound we all love!

7 - As Above, so Below

I love the use of Juxtaposition in Horror films – when done right it can be so effective. In the film, ‘As Above So Below’ it includes the well known track ‘My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean’. Use of jovial and fun music can work really well (just like in the Jeepers Creepers film). Later this year i’m releasing a Horror concept album, and will be working on my own version of this track!

6 - Oculus

Love the use of melodic percussion and Synth’s in this one, a very interesting soundtrack that really grates on you! Very Scary! Love the use of the singers voice an octave higher and slightly distorted, a great trick!

5 - Paranormal Activity – The Marked Ones

A great simple melody starts, and a almost ‘dirty’ style upright piano sound. Love this minimal style horror music.

4 - Annabelle

Something a bit heavier, but still a great soundtrack to a Horror film!

3 - Jessabelle

LOVE this next one. Very ambient and atmospheric……..

2 - Dead Snow 2

Some very haunting stingers and metallic percussion in this one! Great use of staccato style strings (a la Bernard Hermann and the classic Psycho Soundtrack). A great piece of Horror music with a full haunting choir as well!

1 - Open Grave

A beautiful piano led main theme (love the use of slow and steady piano in a Horror film – sets the tone so well!)

So there you have it Horror Music Lovers! Be sure to check back next month for a new Horror Music Blog, we have some interesting news about a new film that I am working on called ‘Haunting at the Rectory’.
